Neurodivergent Affirming Online Therapy for Adults with a Late Diagnosis of ADHD, Autism, or AuDHD

You have now (finally!) received a diagnosis, and many things about your brain, your relationships, and your past experiences are starting to make more sense. But these “aha” moments can also be overwhelming.

You basically feel like you have to go back and re-process your entire life, and it’s tinged with deep grief about how life could have been if you had known sooner.

You’ve recently been diagnosed with ADHD, Autism, or AuDHD, and you’re relieved but wondering what’s next.

Or perhaps you’ve been hearing a lot about ADHD, Autism, AuDHD, 2E, and neurodivergence online, and you’re starting to see pieces of yourself in this content. Maybe you’ve heard one or more of these painful messages throughout your life:

  • I can’t believe you forgot that AGAIN?!

  • Have you tried just writing things down in a planner?

  • You’re so smart, you just need to apply yourself harder.

  • If it mattered enough to you, you would remember.

  • Why can’t you get this?

  • You just need to focus harder.

  • You’re too sensitive.

  • You’re too loud!

  • You’re too shy.

  • You’re too weird.

  • You need to sit still!

I’m a late-diagnosed neurodivergent therapist, offering online therapy for other neurodiverse and nerdy adults!

Sometimes, diagnoses or labels can be pointless or stigma-ridden, but, in my professional and lived experience, neurodivergent people often find a sense of relief when they receive an accurate label to describe their brain.

A diagnosis in adulthood can help you start to make sense of things that previously felt confusing, and it can open you up to a community of others who experience the world the same way you do.

Even the people you love most may not understand why something really complex may come easily to you, while you struggle in the more “mundane” parts of life.

Trauma-Informed Therapy for Neurodivergent Adults

Most neurodivergent folks have experienced some sense of trauma or adversity from being plunged into a world that was not designed for our brains.

This can range from mild over-stimulation and exhaustion in Costco – causing us to wonder “What’s wrong with me that I can’t handle this the way other people can?!” – to a more in-depth adversity of being shamed, ridiculed, or bullied by peers, a teacher, or a parent.

Even well-meaning partners can inadvertently echo the painful messages we received when we were younger. These experiences add up and can contribute to anxiety, depression, or burnout.

I offer a stim-friendly online therapy environment, where you can safely explore your diagnosis and be your authentic self!

Understanding your unique flavor of neurodivergence can help you navigate current and future challenges, as well as inform your healing from past experiences. At Redwood and Oak Couples Counseling, we’ll do this healing work in a neurodivergent-friendly online therapy environment!

Feel free to stim, move around, be blunt, let your eye contact wander, info-dump to me about your special interest for the last 5 min of the session. I’m up for it!
